I’m Dr. Jessica Dorland, a licensed trauma therapist (LPC, DBH) specializing in complex PTSD. Through telehealth, I help clients across Arizona, Minnesota, and Ohio understand how trauma shapes the body, mind, and relationships — and how to heal.

Caring for people since 2009.

I believe trauma is at the root of nearly everything we struggle with — anxiety, depression, chronic illness, addiction, relationship patterns we can’t seem to break, even the way we talk to ourselves. It’s rarely just “in your head.” Trauma lives in the nervous system, the body, and the stories we’ve learned to tell about who we are and what we deserve. My work is built around that understanding.

I specialize in complex PTSD (cPTSD) — the kind of trauma that doesn’t come from a single event, but from prolonged or repeated experiences: childhood neglect, unstable caregiving, domestic violence, or environments where safety was never guaranteed. cPTSD often goes unrecognized because it doesn’t always look like what people expect trauma to look like. It can look like perfectionism. Hypervigilance. Difficulty trusting people, or trusting yourself. A nervous system stuck in fight, flight, freeze, or fawn long after the danger has passed.

I do this work because I believe everyone deserves access to healing — not just people who can afford it, or who happen to live near the right specialist, or who fit neatly into one diagnostic box.

My Approach

I draw primarily from Internal Family Systems (IFS), somatic therapy, and polyvagal-informed approaches — because complex trauma isn’t just a set of memories, it’s a nervous system that learned to survive in a particular way, and healing has to include the body, not just the story. I also incorporate Brainspotting alongside these approaches for clients who benefit from it. I’m intentional about not using EMDR: while it’s a strong tool for single-incident trauma, in my experience it can do more harm than good with complex trauma, so it’s not part of how I work.

I also draw on CBT when it’s useful for building practical coping skills alongside the deeper work.

Who I Work With

I work with clients of all ages, and my ideal client is someone who’s comfortable meeting online — since In One Peace is a telehealth practice. I have particular depth working with domestic violence survivors and people carrying childhood trauma, but my caseload covers the full range of what people bring into the room. If you’re not sure whether your experience “counts” as trauma, that’s a conversation worth having.
