WHERE YOU LIVE MATTERS
Therapy licenses are issued state by state, and what counts is where you’re physically located during our sessions. I’m licensed in Arizona, Minnesota, and Ohio, so if you live in one of those states, I can see you as your therapist. Use the scheduling links at the bottom of this page to get started.
If you live somewhere else, I’d encourage you to find a licensed therapist in your state. Psychology Today’s directory is a good place to start. Go to psychologytoday.com and select Find a Therapist.Use the filters to narrow by what matters to you: the issues you want help with (like trauma or PTSD), your insurance, cost, gender, or therapy approach.
If you’re in crisis, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at any time.
Coaching is a separate service that I offer to people in any state. Coaching is not therapy. It’s forward-looking, goal-focused work: getting clear on what you want, building plans, and staying accountable as you make changes in your career, relationships, or daily life. As a coach, I don’t diagnose, assess, or treat mental health conditions, and coaching isn’t billed to insurance. You can learn more about coaching here…
FIRST SESSION
Your first session with me is a little different than what you might expect from other counselors.
There’s no preconceived plan for what “should” work for you — that’s what this first session is for. That’s especially true for complex trauma: predictability and pacing matter, and I’d rather figure out what actually fits your nervous system than plug you into a standard protocol.
First, there’s some paperwork (for legal reasons we have to do this — it’s also why I can’t offer advice over the phone). Through the paperwork, though, we’ll be able to talk through your individual situation and come up with a plan that works for you. Being flexible allows us to figure out how often and how long your sessions should be. Sometimes your first session is the only one you’ll need; in other cases, you may want several weekly sessions over time. On average, I see clients 5–8 times before they feel ready to move on from counseling — though complex trauma work is often longer, since it’s about more than resolving a single issue.
Whether it’s one session or an ongoing process, we’ll work together to find the right fit.
INSURANCE AND FEES
Sessions are one hour long and are currently billed at $200 per session. This fee is subject to change.
If you are in Arizona, my office is currently only accepting Blue Cross, Cigna, Carelon, and Aetna insurances. I am also able to see Medicare patients with Huma and Aetna. New insurances are being added regularly, so check with my office to see when yours will be accepted.
If you are in Ohio or Minnesota, or if I’m not able to bill your insurance, I offer a sliding fee scale to try to meet the needs of all clients. If you have a financial need, I’d encourage you to schedule an appointment and we can discuss it together during your intake.
